The Montessori School of Tokyo (MST) is seeking AMI Trained Guides to join our team. As our school continues to grow, we seek experienced and committed guides to support our community of children aged 2 to 15.

We are seeking AMI trained guides in all programmes:

• Little People Programme (ages 2-3)
• Sunshine Programme (ages 3-6)
• Lower Elementary (ages 6-9)
• Upper Elementary (ages 9-12)
• Middle School (ages 12-15)

The Montessori School of Tokyo (MST) is seeking a full-time guide to work in our Elementary (EL) programme from August 2024, with the possibility of a start date before June 2024 pending the successful candidate’s availability. The ideal candidate will be a masterful, thoughtful, and compassionate Montessori educator who supports and nurtures the social/emotional development of the students in their care. They are an enlightened generalist who inspires the children to explore all areas of the curriculum.

Primary Role

To work as a teacher who ignites the spark of interest in each individual child and supports them in their developmental needs.

Responsibilities

Maintain a safe physical and emotional environment which encourages respect and understanding between students and faculty in the Elementary community and is consistent with Montessori pedagogy.
Maintain and protect the three-hour work period each morning.
Plan and deliver presentations to students on a regular basis.
Observe students on a regular basis.
Help students to concentrate and find joy in their work.
Ensure the environment is clean, beautiful, orderly, and prepared for students at all times.
Make materials as needed.
Help students to navigate peer conflict.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, and faculty.
Provide feedback about student progress to parents that includes, but is not limited to, twice yearly progress reports and learning conferences, as well as impromptu parent meetings when needed.
Work collaboratively with colleagues, teaching partners, assistants and others within the Elementary teaching team.
Attend school community events such as Back to School events, Montessori Journey, other parent ed offerings, etc.
Ensure that Transparent Classroom and other tools are up to date and lessons are recorded on a regular basis.
Post content on the appropriate social media channels to support wider understanding of MST’s elementary programme.
Other duties (determined by school administration) that support school operations such as screening of new students, garden or recess duty, road duty, field trip chaperone or special event attendance.
Plan, attend, support, and participate in Elementary trips e.g. Elementary Camp, Upper Elementary Ski Trip (if applicable, etc.)

The Montessori School of Tokyo (MST) is seeking a full-time guide to work in our Little People (0~3) programme from August 2024.

The Little People classroom is often the second community that the child enters after birth. The teachers support, nurture and encourage the child’s interests and curiosity while helping the child to adapt to this new community away from home. The teachers work to create an environment that is suitable for the period of development of the young child. As children of this age change so rapidly, the activities on the shelves are changing throughout the year as well. Toilet learning and Care of Self are a big part of the Little People programme.

The ideal candidate will be a kind, caring, patient, and compassionate Montessori educator who supports and nurtures the social/emotional development of the children in their care.

Responsibilities

Ensure the environment is safe, clean, beautiful, and prepared for students at all times - this includes making materials and preparing for food activities as needed.
Maintain the environment in a way that is consistent with Montessori pedagogy.
Plan and deliver lessons to all children regularly and support children’s whole development while at school.
Maintain and protect the three-hour work period each morning.
Observe children carefully during the work cycle, being aware that their ability of speech is still very limited (crying also a form of communication) and the pace of development is fast.

The Sunshine Teacher inspires the children to explore the world by bringing the world into the classroom. The Sunshine Teacher works to make the classroom a safe and inviting space for children so that it can become their ‘place.’ The Sunshine teacher nurtures the social and emotional development of the children in their care.

The Montessori School of Tokyo (MST) is seeking an Early Childhood Assistant Teacher for our Little People (0~3) and Sunshine (3-6) programmes to start as soon as possible.

The successful candidate will have a background in education, with an interest in the Montessori method. Eager to learn and adapt to the culture of the school, they will also be caring towards children, while ready to support their independence.

Responsibilities

Support teachers in the preparation of the environment at the beginning and end of each school day.
Support children during daily transitions and routines such as arrival and dismissal, recess, and nap time.
Get to know each child and their stage of development.
Consult with class teachers to plan strategies to support each child, and the group as a whole.
Participate in level and faculty meetings.
Be available for parent meetings as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

Essential:

Fluent or intermediate English speaker.
A caring, warm, and approachable nature.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to be flexible and responsive to changing situations.

The Montessori School of Tokyo (MST) is seeking a Garden Teacher, who will work across the full spectrum of our programmes, to start as soon as possible and preferably from August 2024.

The Garden Teacher strives to ignite the spark of interest in each individual child and support them in their developmental needs by inspiring children to further explore the world within a garden setting. The Garden Teacher works to make the garden a safe space for children and to nurture the social/ emotional development of the children in his or her care.

The ideal candidate is warm, patient, gentle, and skilled at offering students opportunities to expand their engagement with nature and the outdoors.

Responsibilities

Creates an environment that works in accordance with Montessori principles under the guidance of a Montessori teacher.
Plan and deliver lessons to visiting children on a regular basis and support students in the garden.
Ensure the garden is organized, beautiful, and prepared for students at all times - this includes making materials and preparing activities as needed.
Help students to concentrate and find joy in work.
Lead special activities and garden-related projects.
Observe students during the work cycle.
Offers parent education sessions or other workshops on an as-needed basis.
Coordinates MST parent volunteers pertaining to work needed in the Forest Garden and Grove Campus Rooftop Farm.
Updates Transparent Classroom (daily) and MST’s social media channels (weekly).
Takes a keen interest in MST’s sustainability initiatives.
Provides early childhood support and childcare support on conference and faculty days as needed.
Maintains the garden as needed.
Liaises with external garden contractors for larger facilities tasks

Essential:
