Bridging Communities with Bidii Yetu Teachers

Our ongoing collaboration with Bidii Yetu and MST teachers has been both inspiring and challenging. Through this partnership, we have gained deeper insight into the realities faced by communities working with limited resources—and into the strength and resilience that sustain them.

One of the most significant challenges has been resource scarcity. Basic classroom materials such as paper, pencils, crayons, and even natural wood for creating learning materials are not always readily available. What many schools consider everyday supplies are, in this context, precious and limited.

Infrastructure presents another obstacle. There is uncertainty around consistent access to secure spaces for meetings, work, and communication. In addition, internet access is shared and often unstable, making one-on-one communication difficult. While WhatsApp has been our primary means of staying connected, connectivity challenges—and at times cultural differences—have made communication inconsistent. Meetings have occasionally started 30–45 minutes late due to technical issues, and some have had to be canceled altogether.

As a result of these ongoing barriers, regular interactions have been temporarily paused.

And yet, the story does not end there.

Despite these difficulties, there remains a strong and genuine desire on all sides to continue this collaboration. Recently, two new members were added to our shared WhatsApp group, signaling renewed commitment and momentum.

Within our own community, support has been growing. Families and community members have begun collecting books and educational materials to donate to Bidii Yetu. Some individuals have even offered to personally carry and deliver these supplies, helping to make the logistics of donation more feasible.

Awareness of Bidii Yetu’s needs continues to increase, along with a heartfelt willingness to help in meaningful and sustainable ways. While progress may feel slow at times, the collective effort has been encouraging. Everyone involved is doing their best within the constraints they face.

This partnership reminds us that meaningful collaboration requires patience, adaptability, and trust. Even when communication pauses, the spirit of connection remains. We look forward to finding new pathways forward together.
