Hands-on Parent Experience During the Montessori Journey

On January 30 and 31, MST hosted the yearly Montessori Journey, a traditional Montessori format that takes us away from the fast pace of daily life, and into a space for silence, slow exploration, and reflection. I was grateful to have the opportunity to lead this journey for the second time.

On Friday night, participants had time to move silently around one environment in each level, from the Infant community to the Adolescent program.

On Saturday, the same walk was now led by the guides, who welcomed parents into each class, gave short presentations, and answered questions.

All together, a clear picture emerged of the depth and coherence of the Montessori pedagogy and the way it informs our daily practices as well as the foundational structure of our school.

Parents reported gaining a deeper insight and a sense of clarity from the Journey, and I found myself marveling once more at the layers of depth that this pedagogy presents, and the ways it continues to keep us not only inspired, but connected with each other as we work together in support of our children.

Thank you to all staff who made this possible, and to the parents who committed their time and engagement. I am looking forward to doing this again next year!
