Second Harvest, Second Chances

For our senior project in Willow class, five third-year students chose to organize a food drive. We researched which organization to donate to and decided to give to Second Harvest because the school had run drives for them before and because they served the local community.
Once the food drive was announced, we collected food for a week at both Forest and Grove campuses. The main challenge was collecting enough cardboard boxes. We had to look everywhere for them. Some of the boxes became so heavy that they broke. And then moving them around before delivery was also tough.

We expected to collect around 200 packets of food, but in the end our families donated 649 items, which was way over our goal. The food included 29 bags of rice totaling 129.5 kg, 115 packages of pasta, 134 instant foods, 130 snacks, 179 cans, 29 packets of instant noodles, and 32 other boxes of various things like tea and cereal.
The best part of this project was taking it to Second Harvest. We were pumped about delivering it. We loaded the school bus and then went to the warehouse which was under a highway in Akasaka. The workers there were very nice. It was a great experience for us.
