MST was recognized by the Tokyo Fire Department for our exceptional emergency preparedness. The July 1 ceremony welcomed Head of School James Moore and School Nurse Shoko Lowe (also our Fire Marshall) for a genial gathering at the Azabu Fire Station. Fire Chief Shigeyuki Suzuki awarded the school a Certificate of Excellence for the Lifesaving Training Program (救命講習受講優良証).

The certificate is given to businesses, town councils, or groups other than community associations, where 30% or more of the total number of members hold a valid lifesaving skills certificate. MST far exceeds this at near 100% for returning faculty and staff. Thirteen faculty undertook First Aid and CPR training in the week before the first day of school. MSTers renew this training every three years.
All staff are also alerted to children with allergies, with everyone practicing the use of an Epipen.
In addition to the CPR and First Aid training, some members of staff undergo firefighting and fire prevention training, with our school nurse doubling as our Fire Marshall, a designation requiring further specialized training. Special roles are given to all faculty and staff should an emergency evacuation occur. The evacuation procedure will be practiced on September 23 this year. A broadcast with more details will be sent shortly.
